Maximo Laura is an award-winning textile artist that is credited with promoting Peruvian contemporary art on an international stage. With tapestry art adorning the walls of buildings across the world, including his own Museo Maximo Laura in Lima and Cuzco, Mr. Laura is a prolific and talented artist. We allow you to own some of his tapestry wall art for your home or office.

The art of tapestry weaving is one that he learned as a child in his home in Peru. Growing up amidst a family of textile artists, Mr. Laura is a fifth-generation weaver, making use of the knowledge he gained from his family in techniques and methods of handweaving. However, Maximo Laura was also interested in gaining knowledge about the wider art world and embarked on a life-long journey to learn about art history through literature that would take him beyond the borders of Ayacucho.

Today, Mr. Laura has had his work displayed in over 140 exhibitions in more than 29 countries. In the Museo Maximo Laura in Lima and Cuzco, there are over 200 tapestries on permanent display, showcasing the most important Peruvian textiles with the richest artistic visions – to encourage and inspire budding artists as well as promote, exhibit and preserve Mr. Laura’s work for future generations.

What Makes Maximo Laura Tapestry Art So Special?

Maximo Laura art is different from any art you’ll have seen before. It’s Peruvian tapestry art with a twist. Whereas tapestry is traditionally a flat piece, Maximo Laura pieces are woven with a 3D feel to them, so they feel as great as they look. From afar, they might even look like a painting, but you see its true beauty when you get up close. The colors you see are magnificent as each piece is created with a variety of colors woven together before they see the loom. This enables the craftsmen to create colors you wouldn’t normally be able to create through weaving alone and visual effects you might not think possible in tapestry. Maximo Laura aims to create an explosion of color and joy, which is clear in all of his modern tapestries.

Our Peruvian weavings for sale are all handmade through millenary technique and through a unique perspective that cannot be matched by other tapestries in the world. The texture quality and blends of colors of the tapestries we sell provide a totally unique experience in comparison to other textile arts/tapestries. They have the ability to make you feel proud and happy that you have something rare and exclusive – something that not everybody has.

Buying Peruvian Tapestry Art For Sale

We have designed the ordering and shipping process to make it as simple as possible for you to get the perfect piece of tapestry wall art to suit your needs.

To begin with, simply select your favorite design from our gallery – the sizes are displayed for your convenience. When you have decided, you can choose whether to pay for the order or wait until dispatch, and we accept all major debit and credit cards, or you can use PayPal or bank transfer if you prefer.

Once you have ordered, a single Master Weaver will begin to create your art, based on the guidance from Maximo Laura from his original. Each Master Weaver has experience and is specially chosen for their abilities, before receiving further training from Maximo Laura himself. As a single weaver completes one tapestry, the creation process may take 4-5 weeks, but throughout you will be kept updated with regular photographs from the loom. Hand-woven tapestries have depth and intricate designs, so that means the weaver needs to take their time.

Once the weaving is complete, the tapestry is cleaned and stretched. This process increases the elasticity of the fibers and allows the tapestry to reach the desired final size. A Certificate of Authenticity is then stitched into the reverse, so you can always tell an authentic piece of Maximo Laura tapestry art.

Shipping & Hanging Maximo Laura’s Tapestry Wall Art

Thanks to the reliable service, we can ship the completed tapestry internationally with DHL Express. Once you receive your tapestry wall art, we suggest you hang it using rods at the top and the bottom. These can be metal or wooden, and although we do not supply them, we can advise on the best ones to choose. There are sleeves for these rods to be attached, and the weight of these can keep the tapestry stretched.

If during transport or storage, the tapestry is folded, you can iron it on the backside to remove any creases.

To maintain the glorious colors, it is recommended that your Peruvian tapestry is hung in an area with no direct sunlight and is cleaned using a soft cloth or a handheld vacuum.
